Single malt whisky is whisky distilled at a single distillery from water and malted barley but without the addition of any other cereals, and by batch distillation in pot stills. The traditional production zones for single malt whisky are Scotland and Ireland, although Canada and Japan also produce good examples. The most famous whisky regions for single malt production are Islay and the Scottish Highlands.
