Opening their doors in 1824, the Speyside distillery of Mortlach has been producing grand single malt expressions using their own proprietary method of distillation known as "The Way." After the distillery was added to Diageo’s line of brands, production increased bringing the once obscure Scotch whiskey brand from being a hidden gem to a crowd favorite.
Their Mortlach 16 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky is part of a new line of Scotch whiskeys intended to replace their original core range. Made from 100% malted Scottish barley, the Scotch is aged for 16 long years in a traditional American oak cask that previously held sherry creating a unique blend of sweet and smoky flavor profile that carries the distillery’s distinctive full-bodied and meaty character.
The whiskey boasts a nose brimming with notes of soft brown sugar, dark raisins, dates, dried figs, tropical flowers, cocoa, and leather. This is complemented by a robust and creamy palate with generous helpings of hard caramel notes and dried hard fruits alongside crème brûlée, baked apple, toffee, leather, tobacco leaf, and earthy woody spice tied together by a sweet dry finish with just the right amount of spiciness.
Whether it’s a celebratory Scotch whiskey or a good after-dinner sipper, a bottle of Mortlach 16 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky is just what you’re looking for. Grab a bottle today delight in its savory flavors of this fine Speyside expression.
