Quick Overview

Fettercain Distillery was founded in 1824, just after the 1823 Customs Act that slashed the excise on whisky production. The distillery was converted from an old corn mill into a distillery by the estate’s owner, Sir Alexander Ramsey. Fettercairn was rebuilt in 1887 after being destroyed in a fire. Fettercairn was mothballed sometime between 1926 and 1939. The distillery receives its water for production from sources in the Grampian Mountains. The distillery is now owned by White & Mackay Ltd. The distillery has two wash stills, two spirit stills and they produce 2,300,000 litres a year. House Style: Light earthy, nutty. Easy drinking or apertif.

Tasting note: Nose: Vanilla, white chocolate and hints of ginger. Faint soya sauce and kiwi fruits. Palate: Traces of smoke and a hint of flint. Lemongrass, toffee and gooseberries. Finish: Quite dry and refreshing. Dry ash and fresh cut wood.
