A Crisp Guide To Whiskies From Around The World

Whether you are a drinking veteran or just entering into the world of booze, it's still confusing to know all about the types of whiskeys. Scotch, Rye, Bourbon! Overwhelmed with the wide range but confused from where to start? Let’s start from spelling. Whiskey is Scottish, and Whiskey is from elsewhere.

Whiskey starts from grains soaked in hot water called mash. Hot water extracts sugar from grains and later it is fermented for making alcohol.

You can have your whiskey the way you like it: neat, with water, with ice, mixing with a cocktail or any other way. It’s all about you how you enjoy your drink.

Whiskey comes in a variety of flavors. Taste it and enjoy your favorite flavor.

Scotch whiskey – Regions of Scotland produce varieties of flavors. Scotch whiskey is made from malted barley or grain and is aged for 3 years in oak barrels. It tastes smoky, earthy and slightly fruity with fruit flavors. Scotch comes in five categories: single malt, single grain then comes with a blend that is blended malt and blended grain and the last is blended Scotch whiskey.

Irish whiskey – It is triple distilled in copper pot and is light, fruity and less peaty than scotch. There are exotic versions such as Dunsmore Irish whiskey as well. Irish made their whiskey from yeast-fermented grain mash or mash of malted cereals and is aged for three years in wooden cask.

American whiskey – Whiskey from America is sweeter, and is less peaty and smoky than Scottish and Irish. One of the most delicious drinks is a rare American whiskey. They contain maximum 80% alcohol and are made with more than 50% of one type of grain like 51 % corn in bourbon, 51% rye in rye whiskey, 51% wheat in wheat whiskey 0r 80% corn mash in corn whiskey.

Japanese whiskey – Whiskey from Japan is smooth, delicate, and honey is added to add sweetness to whiskey. They use double malted or peated barley and are aged in a wooden cask. One of the finest versions comes in the form of white oak Japanese whiskey.

Indian whiskey – India produces its whiskey from fermented molasses. Their whiskey is commonly known as Rum in the rest of the world.

These are some of the popular whiskeys though whiskey is produced worldwide. It’s up to your taste that you like and how do you have it.
